LOW PERFORMING SCHOOLS

In the 2009-2010 school year, the East Region administration of Houston ISD brought in Empowering Writers to improve student writing and test scores in 35 schools. HYMAN FINE STUDENTS

Although using Empowering Writers was against the district’s wishes, Cathy White, principal of the Massachusetts school, knew she was on to something when she saw her students’ writing. When the MCAS scores were released, Ms. White’s instincts proved correct. Hyman Fine students broke an 11 year run of stagnant scores with unprecedented marks on the state test by implementing Empowering Writers.
